Role

The Cost Accounting Senior Manager/Director of Cost Accounting will be responsible for leading and overseeing the cost accounting functions within the organization. Your role involves developing cost accounting strategies, managing the cost accounting team, and providing insightful financial analysis to support business decisions. You will ensure accurate cost data, enhance cost control procedures, and contribute to the overall financial health of the company.

You will play a critical role in managing and optimizing the financial aspects related to cost and inventory accounting. You will oversee and analyze all cost expenditures related to manufacturing processes.  You will work closely with Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and accounting teams to develop cost-control systems, monitor business expenses, prepare budget plans, and ensure accurate financial reporting.

Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership:

Develop and implement cost accounting strategies to support the company’s financial goals.

Provide leadership and idrectrion to the cost accounting team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Cost Accounting Management:

Oversee the preparation and analysis of cost reports and financial statements in month-end and quarter-end close processes.

Manage cost allocation processes, ensuring accurate assisngment of costs to products and services.

Develop and maintain standard costing systems and variance analysis. 

Perform cost center budgets, headcount requirements, volume analysis ad raw material pricing analysis. 

Develop and implement accounting policies, procedures, and controls.

Financial Analysis:

Conduct detailed cost analysis and present findings to senior management

Identify cost-saving opportunities and recommend actionable strategies.

Support pricing strategies by providing cost information and analysis.

Budgeting and Forecasting:

Lead the development of cost budgets and forecasts.

Monitor and report on budget variances, providing explanations and recommendations.

Compliance and Reporting:

Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, regulations, and company policies.

Prepare and present cost accounting reports to internal and external stakeholders.

Coordinate with external auditors during audits.

Analyze sales and use taxes.

Processes:

Ensure compliance with SOX and internal controls related to inventory.

Identify and implement process improvements to enhance cost accounting accuracy and efficiency.

Utilize technology and software to streamline cost accounting processes.

Collaboration:

Work closely with other departments, such as Production, Supply chain, Sales, and Accounting to ensure alignment on cost management initiatives.

Provide financial support for cross-functional projects and initiatives. 

Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • 10+ years of accounting and cost accounting experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
  • CPA or CMA certification is advantageous.
  • Proven experience in cost accounting, financial analysis, and reporting.
  • Strong knowledge of cost accounting principles and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Excellent communication and leadership and managerial skills.
  • Self-starter with high integrity and a goal-oriented mindset.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and influence cross-functional teams.
Location

Sunnyvale, CA. This is a hybrid role, at least 3 days per week in office.
